What inspired you to start your business?

Starting my own business happened pretty organically (can't resist a healthy pun) to be honest! I fell in love with the holistic nutrition world, as I found it to be the perfect fusion of my passion for nutrition and psychology. After getting my nutrition coaching certification, I started helping friends and then taking on a few private clients. I realized very quickly that I had found IT - my soul's calling - and there was no way I was turning back, even if the business had a loooong way to grow.

Another major inspiration is my dad. He started his own business before I was born, and instilled his self-starter mentality in all of his kids! He always prioritized quality time with us and somehow struck that ever-illusive work-life balance better than anyone I know. Because he ran his business from home, I have all of these precious memories that I wouldn’t have had if he were commuting to an office every day. My very favorite one is when he waited for me to get home from school in first grade so that we could plant tulips together in front of our house. I also LOVED to read quietly on the couch in his home office while he worked. As long as I kept quiet, I was allowed to stay, which made me feel productive and included!

How do you stay motivated through the ups and downs of your business?

By connecting back to my “for the sake of” – or mission behind my business – and by reminding myself that the right opportunity may be right around the corner. I also find that connecting with my clients or other entrepreneurs who inspire me is a surefire way to lift me out of any funk.

I’ve noticed that the best opportunities present themselves when I leave space for them, so I try to take the pressure off of myself to have every detail of my business planned out. Leaving some space for the unexpected takes a lot of pressure off and shifts me from restriction into an energy of expansion and possibility!

What advice would you give the younger you? 

Hmm…. I’d tell my younger self that the line between those who seem to be thriving and have it all figured out and those who don’t is SO MUCH THINNER than you think, and that we hold the power to decide if and when to step across that line. Also, I would tell her not to worry so much about making the right choice all the time! That the only wrong choice is to ignore your intuition in favor of letting someone with louder opinions make your decisions for you.

How does your spirituality impact your business? 

In so many ways! I find that my spirituality manifests most in the form of TRUST. Time and time again, when I focus on a little less doing and a little more being -- whether I’m meeting 1on1 with a client or hosting a big workshop -- is when the real magic happens! It’s when I’m in that trusting and present place that I speak the right words and connect with the right people. I’m left feeling delighted and grateful for God’s guiding presence in my life.

How do you balance all of your commitments personally and professionally?

I feel most balanced when I choose my commitments carefully. I’m starting to (finally) realize that life is too short to do things you don’t want to do (!), so before I commit to anything in my professional or personal life, I ask myself if I actually want to partake, or if I’m doing it because someone or something has made me feel that I should.

A framework I’ve created for my clients and myself is the CORE 4, which is what I believe to be the four key ingredients to feeling balanced in life. They are Self-Care, Connection, Creativity, and Play. I find that when any one of these essential “life nutrients” gets ignored for too long, that unhappiness, overwhelm, and imbalance ensues. 

I totally subscribe to the belief that we CAN have it all, just not all at the same time. I feel balanced when I tune into what my body needs each day, and try to resist the go-until-you-drop lifestyle that I see so many women (and men) my age subscribe to with work and personal commitments. 

What has been your biggest challenge along the way and how did you overcome it?

Facing – and working to shift – my own limiting beliefs! I worked with an amazing life coach last year (Christine Hassler), who helped me in SO many ways, but one of my biggest learnings was to take more responsibility for my current reality, and to feel empowered that I can change it however I desire. I used to aspire to be fearless, but I have come to cherish fear, as it is always telling us something valuable. I now aspire to let myself feel fear without judgment, and to not wait for the fear to go away before taking aligned action that I know will move me closer to fulfilling my goals, dreams, and purpose!

In what ways do you feel like you are impacting the world by doing the work that you do?

Oh gosh… that’s a big one! J Honestly, every time I see a client transformation – physical OR emotional – I feel complete. Impacting the world feels like an insurmountable task, but holding loving space for one client at a time in order to help them restore their health and find the courage to create the life they truly desire – now THAT’S a task I can get behind!
